PNP to probe his claims of abduction inside prison, Rolito Go back in custody

Some 24 hours after he was discovered missing from the New Bilibid Prison, convicted killer Rolito Go is back in the custody of authorities.

Go and nurse-nephew Clemence Yu claimed they were abducted Tuesday night and brought to Batangas but released and given bus fare back to Manila.

"They were apparently brought to Batangas, kanina ni-release sila at sila ay sumakay sa Lucena Bus at doon sila bumaba sa Alabang (They were allegedly brought to Batangas and released. They took a bus and got off at Alabang)," Philippine National Police chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome said in an interview Wednesday night. Parts of the interview were aired on dzBB radio early Thursday.

He said the two were allegedly abducted inside the New Bilibid Prison between 8 and 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the supposed kidnappers having them ride Yu's vehicle.

Bartolome quoted Go as claiming he and Yu borrowed the bus driver's mobile phone to contact their family.

The dzBB report said the two got off the bus at about 11:15 p.m. at Alabang, and were "fetched" by their family and a PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group team.

For now, Bartolome said they will verify Go's claims. He said Go is to be returned to the New Bilibid Prison Thursday morning.

A separate dzBB report said Go had some scratches, supposedly from his "struggle" with his abductors.

NBP officials discovered Go was "missing" from his cell Tuesday night during a head count. His relatives claimed he was abducted and that a P1-million ransom was demanded.

In November 1993, Go was sentenced "in absentia" three days after he escaped from jail while the trial was ongoing.

He was arrested in 1996 in a piggery in Pampanga and was presented to former Vice President Joseph Estrada, who at the time was also chief of the Presidential Anti-Crime Commission.
